This devlog will detail a Space Plane FlightGear model I am working on for The Space Plane Corporation.

FlightGear is an open-source flight simulator that has been around for quite some time, developed and maintained by a team of volunteers.

The Space  Plane Corporation is a non-profit organization creating the first open-source, SSTO, HTOL space plane.

I started with the Saab J35F Draken fighter jet available for download via FlightGear.

I imported our model into Blender and started cutting out spaces for the cockpit and landing gear wells using Boolean modifiers. We try to rely solely on open-source software like FreeCAD and Blender and of course FlightGear.

I used a Blender plugin to export the cut model to the .ac format, which is what FlightGear uses for its 3D models. This is still at a very early stage.

In future posts I will talk about animations and the flight model.
